My Monday Reset Routine (Even When Life Feels Crazy)

Let’s be honest—Mondays used to feel like a punch to the gut.

The laundry piles, the meal planning, the to-do list that magically tripled over the weekend... it was enough to send me straight into overwhelm before my feet even hit the floor. But over time, I’ve learned that how I start my week matters. A lot.

Now, instead of trying to “do it all,” I lean into a simple, flexible Monday reset that helps me feel a little more grounded—even in the chaos of mom life.

Here’s what that looks like:

1. A Slow(er) Start

I don’t rush to “catch up.” Instead, I ease in. I start the diffuser (usually with something bright and citrusy), and give myself 10 quiet minutes—pour myself a cup of coffee, open the blind, and set the mood with dim lighting. Mornings are a big tone-setter in our home, so I love using uplifting blends like:

It lifts the mood, clears the air (literally), and helps everyone start the day with a little more lightness.

2. Move My Body

Getting in my Monday morning CrossFit class is a non-negotiable for me. It’s not about chasing perfection—it’s about showing up. Prioritizing movement at the start of the week helps me stay consistent, focused, and energized for everything else on my plate.

I always say: if I can push through that Monday workout, I can take on anything the week throws at me.

3. Quick House Reset

I don’t deep clean—but I do reset a few zones that affect my mental space the most:

  • Clear the kitchen counters

  • Toss in a load of laundry

  • Do a 10-minute pickup in the living room and kitchen. It’s amazing how much mental clarity I get from just tidying the spaces I live in the most.

4. Fridge + Meal Reset

I check what’s in the fridge and jot down a super loose meal plan for the week. Nothing fancy—just dinners I know my kids will actually eat, a few quick breakfasts, and snacks to grab. I’ll prep anything easy (like washing fruit, making energy balls or hard boiling eggs) to make the week feel a bit smoother.

5. Intentional Oil Use

One of my favorite tools is diffusing and applying oils throughout the day. On Mondays, I typically reach for:

  • Peppermint + Lemon for energy and focus

  • Stress Away (rolled on my wrists and neck) to keep the mood light

  • Valor before I sit down to work or tackle something I’ve been avoiding. It’s simple, but it helps me move through the day with more intention.

6. One Main Focus

Instead of writing a huge to-do list, I pick one main thing I want to get done that day. Whether it’s a work task, a home project, or even just “get outside with the kids,” narrowing my focus keeps me from feeling behind before I begin.

The Bottom Line

I’ve let go of the pressure to have perfect Mondays. Some are still messy, loud, and full of interruptions—but this little reset helps me come back to myself, even when life feels crazy.

If your Mondays have been feeling heavy, maybe give yourself permission to reset—your way.

Because thriving doesn’t mean doing more. Sometimes it just means starting with intention.
