Chewy Sourdough Chocolate Chip Cookies You’ll Make on Repeat
If you’ve been keeping a sourdough starter, you know the joy—and sometimes the challenge—of using up discard. These sourdough chocolate chip cookies are a go-to in our household for just that reason. They’re everything you want in a cookie: chewy, sweet, just a touch tangy, and loaded with melty chocolate chips.
This recipe is a family favorite and always disappears fast. It’s also a great way to reduce waste in the kitchen by giving your sourdough discard a second life in the form of cookies. Win-win!
Note: This recipe was adapted from Farmhouse on Boone, one of my favorite sources for sourdough and other homemade recipes.
Why We Love Them
Chewy + tangy: The sourdough discard adds depth of flavor and creates a perfectly chewy texture.
Make-ahead friendly: Chill the dough for enhanced flavor—overnight is best!
Family-approved: Kid-friendly and picky-eater approved in our house.
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
½ cup white granulated sugar
½ cup coconut sugar
½ cup honey
2 large eggs
¾ cup sourdough discard (unfed)
2 tsp vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp baking powder
1½ tsp salt
2 cups chocolate chips
Instructions
Cream the butter and sugars in a stand mixer until light and fluffy.
Add eggs, sourdough discard, honey, and vanilla, and mix until smooth.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Slowly add dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Scrape the bowl and mix well.
Fold in chocolate chips.
Scoop dough (about 3 tbsp per cookie) and place on parchment-lined baking sheet.
Preheat oven to 375°F. Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are golden. Cool on a wire rack.
Storage
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or pop them in the freezer once baked—they’re just as delicious straight from the freezer (a favorite in our house!).
